Calgary Farmyard

Have you been to a corn maze? We haven’t, so we drove just beyond the city limits in the SE to the Calgary Farm Yard. We wanted to see the sunflowers, pumpkin patch and of course, the corn maze. Well, we were pretty surprised by how much more there was to see and do.

First, with COVID-19 you must purchase tickets ahead of time. We discovered this after we’d parked and were headed to the entrance. We easily purchased the tickets on our phones and carried on. Currently, they have a reduced limit of people allowed at the farm so in case you are not as lucky as we were, call ahead.

Calgary Farmyard is a huge place filled with fun for the whole family. There are so many activities for children to burn off energy outside. They have a number of different giant slides, jumping pillows, mini golf, Wild West shooting gallery, lost treasures mining, a rope course, calf roping, a petting zoo, stalk carts, rat rollers, wagon rides, express train and so much more. It is easily a day trip for the whole family.

The Calgary Farmyard wanted to recognize the work of frontline workers this year and designed the corn maze after a WeFightTogether.ca picture. The course is set up with clues throughout to make your way to an end point. We were fortunate that we didn’t have to worry about social distancing in the corn maze as we didn’t meet up with anyone else on our path.

We visited the farm the second week of September. We were likely two weeks late to enjoy the spectacular sunflower field in full bloom, but we expect that the place would have also been much busier in August.

We asked where the pumpkin patch was and we learned that they do not grow pumpkins on their farm. They’ve tried, but we have frost too soon in the Calgary area. Instead, the farm brings up all their pumpkins from Taber in southern Alberta where the weather is a bit warmer and kinder to pumpkins. Who knew?
